About the role

Description

The Prevention Department at Bay State Community Services manages several community-based prevention grants, funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and other government agencies, in the areas of youth substance misuse prevention, tobacco prevention, and overdose prevention. We work with community partners to promote health and well-being through local policy, practice, systems, and/or environmental changes. We strive to apply center racial equity and social justice throughout our work. Our team works to build relationships with community partners, conduct needs assessments and develop strategic plans, implement programs and social marketing campaigns, and conduct evaluations. 


We are currently looking for an intern to support our Prevention in Early Childhood (PEC) work, including implementation and evaluation of the Strengthening Families Program. 


Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall support to the Prevention Department on projects and initiatives
  • Supports PEC coordinator with the Strengthening Families Program, including preparing materials, assisting with the program on Wednesday nights, collecting/tracking/analyzing evaluation data
  • Support Prevention Staff on social norms campaigns 
  • Assists with maintaining and updating Prevention Department social media accounts and website.
  • Ensures data accuracy by organizing, managing, inputting, and analyzing data
  • Attends and assists with Coalition and Workgroup Meetings and takes meeting minutes
  • Research environmental prevention strategies for early childhood prevention
  • Keeps accurate records related to program requirements  

 

Schedule:   

Intern will need to be in person on Wednesday nights to provide support with the Strengthening Families Program.


This is an unpaid internship.

Requirements

  

  • Preferred candidate working on Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or experience in public health (or related field)
  • Experience in the field of primary prevention/public health, social justice, needs assessments, and program planning and      implementation
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and a commitment to anti-racism, reducing health disparities and advancing racial equity
  • Ability to prepare general reports, graphs, charts, and tables
  • Detail-oriented and knowledge of data management tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving skills
  • Creativity, flexibility, and ability to handle several tasks simultaneous
  • Knowledge of local community resources and/or resident of Greater Quincy area preferred 
  • Ability to work very independently and also as a team
  • Available to attend occasional meetings outside of regular business hours 
  • Ability to travel to Quincy office
