The Role:
The Program Manager – GM Energy Hardware Products is responsible for leading new product development programs from concept through launch across GM Energy’s portfolio of charging and energy management solutions. This role drives cross-functional alignment, manages timing and deliverables, identifies and mitigates program risks, and coordinates execution with internal GM teams and external partners to enable successful product development and launch.
This role requires a strong program leader who can operate effectively in a fast-paced product development environment, influence cross-functional teams, and bring structure to complex hardware development programs. The ideal candidate combines strong execution discipline with the ability to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and drive alignment across technical and business stakeholders.
Key Stakeholders
This role works closely with: - Product Planning and Product Management for roadmap and launch alignment - Engineering teams for technical execution and deliverables - Software teams for coordination on integrated charging and energy management solutions - Product Quality teams for validation and readiness reviews - Purchasing and Supply Chain for supplier deliverables and milestone execution - Marketing and commercial teams for launch coordination - Other GM organizations for integration to vehicle programs and enterprise initiatives
What You’ll Do:
Lead hardware product development programs through the stage-gate process from concept, development, validation, and launch.
Define and manage program scope, timing, milestones, budget, resourcing needs, and deliverables.
Track program performance against key development and launch targets and provide clear status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
Maintain program risk registers, identify issues early, and drive mitigation plans across cross-functional teams.
Plan and facilitate program execution meetings with internal teams, suppliers, and external partners.
Develop recommendations related to program changes, including timing, scope, resourcing, cost, and risk mitigation.
Manage change control processes for scope, cost, timing, and go-to-market impacts.
Define required internal and customer-facing product documentation needed for product release and launch readiness.
Coordinate supplier and GM technical deliverables required to support hardware product development and release.
Track and confirm GM Energy products are released in alignment with vehicle program and portfolio roadmaps.
Author and manage program content change requests through applicable GM release and approval systems.
Support quality readiness reviews, validation activities, and launch readiness assessments.
Partner closely with engineering, product management, product planning, supply chain, purchasing, software teams, and quality teams to ensure successful execution.
Coordinate with supplier partners and channel stakeholders on key launch and release milestones.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years experience managing complex hardware product development programs in the automotive, energy, or related industries
Strong understanding of stage-gate processes, product development lifecycles, and launch management
Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving alignment across multiple stakeholders
Strong skills in program planning, issue resolution, and risk management
Experience using program management tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Smartsheet, or similar platforms
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and develop mitigation plans
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting and team coordination

PMP certification
Experience supporting product launches involving both hardware and software integration
Experience working with external suppliers, commercial partners, or channel partners
Knowledge of automotive product release processes and governance systems
