About the role

GitHub is looking for a communications strategist to join the Internal Communications team. We seek an experienced storyteller who can work with partners across the company to surface and amplify stories that reflect our culture and values. This role will advise teams and senior leaders on communication of key programs and company news, while developing effective strategies to drive employee engagement and shared understanding of our business strategy.

In this role, you will be a leader in building stronger connections between the company and our employees (“Hubbers”), influencing how information is delivered to a global, remote-first workforce. You may be parachuted into a hot spot within the business to assess communication opportunities, develop a clear strategy with measurable communication goals, and then partner with leaders and subject-matter experts to execute. You may be in charge of launching a program from scratch and be key in follow up and follow through. You may partner with HR, Operations, Finance, Product, Engineering, Legal or IT on key change initiatives, a senior executive on a new program or announcement, or with the broader Corporate Communications team on cross-collaborative programs. You will serve as both a communicator and culture ambassador, finding ways to enhance GitHub’s culture while also driving growth, maturation, and change as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal internal communications advisor to core business units, working closely with their leaders to drive change and engage Hubbers on priority business updates and milestones.
  • Partner with business leaders across GitHub’s global workforce to help frame and explain key announcements about important initiatives, and highlight the innovation and collaboration behind advancements at GitHub in various regions.
  • Enhance the sharing of information with team members across the company.
  • Create integrated communications strategies, plans, and assets for transformational programs, with an emphasis on business strategy, change management, employee experience, and operational maturity.
  • Guide leaders on effective communication principles, strategies, and tactics to drive shared understanding of GitHub’s business strategy and strong connection to company culture.
  • Own the content strategy for GitHub’s company-wide intranet, developing consistent governance, guidelines, and documentation for content and news programs.
  • Continuously assess and optimize existing internal communications channels and programs, and spearhead the exploration of new and innovative ways to reach the global Hubber audience, deepening Hubbers’ connection to each other, the business, and our common mission and culture.
  • Embed robust analytics and measurement processes into internal communications programs, analyzing and sharing relevant metrics to make informed, data-driven decisions and drive ongoing improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of professional experience in internal/employee communications.
  • Experience developing strategic communication plans in partnership with key stakeholders, and executing on them from start to finish.
  • Experience working on cross-functional communications (PR, social, events) teams and/or in agency environments.
  • Experience working with company executives and ability to advise on communications strategy to all levels of the organization (and to persuade as needed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the software development and/or technology industries.
  • Experience in defining and managing measurement programs for communications functions and programs.
  • Crisis communications experience, including developing response plans alongside cross-functional communications partners, HR and Legal teams, and internal subject matter experts.
  • Strong organization, prioritization and project management skills, with excellent attention to detail.

Minimum salary of $73,500 to maximum $195,000
