In the framework of implementing Westinghouse's R&D, innovation and digital transformation, the Manager of Modeling and Simulation will be responsible for leading the modeling and simulation strategy building the “dynamic simulation lab” initiative and monitoring the activities related with that area. This leader carries out his/h.er mission in a transversal team with all the different stakeholders in D&I, GOS and Business Units. This function is global.

 

Your Day to Day:

The Manager of Modeling and Simulation leads the team of modeling and simulation engineers in D&I providing support to different BUs’ and internal projects. Responsible for all aspects of personnel development and management, typically manages experienced and geographically dispersed professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments.  Some of the management tasks include:

• Responsible for the effective operations of the engineering team of and ensure standards of quality (including effective management of the corrective action program), cost (including utilization of resources to meet assigned targets), safety (both ensuring a Nuclear Safety Culture as well as personnel and Industrial safety), reliability, timeliness and performance are met in engineering processes.
• Prepare and successfully implement training and development plans with emphasis on long-term resource needs.
• Continually scans the environment to verify products and services are adding value to both the customer and Westinghouse.
• Drive technology, methodology and supporting tools continuous improvement and standardization.
• Lead the team with a strategic focus, communicate vision for future and promote culture that aligns with organizational goals. Develop culture that values a safety conscious work environment, technical excellence, personalized customer service and human performance fundamentals.

 

The Manager of Modeling and Simulation works together with the Director of Digital Innovation on conceptualization and building the strategy of the "dynamic simulation lab" initiative. In this context, it is necessary to use Multiphysics approach allowing the simulation and thus the whole concept of design validation in all the situations normal, disturbed, incidental, and accidental. Ideally this approach should be based on a single tool enabling the data to be exchanged dynamically in a coherent way between the various integrated simulation codes and to adapt the input parameters of the executed scenarios to be use during training and regulatory engagements. This approach should consider (i) the different technologies being used currently in Westinghouse (proprietary IP and third parties) including their Voice of Customer (VoC), current product strategies and roadmaps, (ii) the current and future needs of the BUs (business plans) and internal use cases and (iii) technology watch of competitors and potential partners and (iv) market trends. It will be needed to create and actively lead a cross-functional team for the conceptual design capturing the information from the different stakeholders and defining the roadmap. Asure roadmap consistency and alignment with other D&I initiatives such as Technology Bricks.

 

Through technical knowledge and expertise and in alignment with other WEC entities, this role will drive the organization to publish papers in technical journals, engage in joint technology development programs with national labs and universities, and leverage tech companies to accelerate modeling and simulation development that will drive value for Westinghouse’s business strategy.

 

In general, the Manager of Modeling and Simulation ensures execution rigor across all projects and a culture of entrepreneurship and pioneer within D&I and WEC globally while supports engagement with the business units.

 

Who You Are:
