Course Description:

This ESL course is designed to equip participants with critical language skills and strategies, enabling them to communicate and advance their research effectively in a second language. A particular focus will be on English for Academic Purposes, incorporating language learning tactics that enhance digital and intercultural communication. The course aims to empower researchers to engage successfully with diverse audiences, supporting their contributions to global academic discourse and collaboration.

Frontiers of Belonging - Displacement, Refuge Seeking, and Hospitality in West and Central Africa is an International Research Training Group (IRTG) to enhance doctoral training by collaborating across disciplines, academic epistemologies, and methodologies. Other goals include the acquisition of digital, language, and communication skills to facilitate doctoral researchers’ knowledge mobilization at an early stage. Finally, the project aims to bolster intersectoral collaboration, thereby increasing the accessibility and usability of research by including research subjects as co-producers of knowledge.

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline. Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level. Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course. Experience with team-teaching. TESL Certification or equivalent.
