COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, is seeking applications for a non-teaching appointment for 4.5 months to provide teaching support for BMDE 657 Biomedical Engineering Industry Internship (18 credits).

Course Overview: This course covers various aspects of translational biomedical engineering at an organization in the biomedical engineering industry (including private, public and non-governmental organizations), which includes applying engineering principles to design, develop, implement, or test biomedical engineering solutions as well as assume active roles in translational projects of biomedical engineering solutions at host organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supporting students and host organizations with internship placement, policies, and procedures; supporting the course instructor with course deliverables, enrolment, grading, and coordination between students and host organizations.

OTHER MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

•              Creating, nurturing, and vetting a network of industry internship host organizations.
•              Advising students and host organizations on policies and procedures throughout the internship
•              Coordinating communications between the course instructor, students, and internship hosts
•              Handling any issues as they arise (e.g. competency improvement plans)
•              Creating, facilitating, and disseminating course deliverables (e.g. assignments, lectures, resources).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Experience managing and coordinating supervised internships at industry host organization, particularly as coordinated for current students in a university/academic environment Understanding of translational biomedical engineering at organizations in the biomedical engineering industry (including private, public and non-governmental organizations), Understanding of industry needs related to the design, development, implementation, or testing of biomedical engineering solutions. Experience in student advising, industry-academia relations, course design, development of policies/resources.
