About the role

Summary

Responsible for assisting in the accurate and timely preparation, distribution, and accounting of employee payroll. Serves as a liaison to employees and third-party payroll vendors to ensure payroll processes accurately and reflects company specific pay policies. Audits employees pay records and assist in the reconciliation process as needed. Participates in payroll system upgrades, internal and external audits and implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with employees to resolve outstanding payroll inquiries.
  • Interprets pay policies, e.g., vacation, LOA, disability, workers compensation, governmental regulations, withholding exemptions, etc. and ensures amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to various accounts correctly.
  • Ensures company compliance with federal and state payroll standards.
  • Acts as payroll subject matter expert, staying current with changes in the payroll and tax law.
  • Assist with audits such as internal, state, federal, etc. for correctly classifying and paying employees.
  • Prepare tax reports and related documentation.
  • Document’s payroll processes and procedures, coach and cross train other payroll staff.
  • Act as back-up performing specialized tasks or activities.
  • Research and interpret federal and state regulatory requirements and resolve tax, withholding, and reconciliation issues for payroll and tax processing.
  • Performs payroll reconciliation, supports the Finance organization as it relates to payroll related activities i.e., bank funding, general ledger reconciliation and error resolution.
  • Audit of tax changes implemented by third party vendor to ensure all system updates are integrated and calculations are confirmed and documented
  • Assists as a liaison between Payroll, HRIS, and third-party payroll provider to ensure accurate documentation of system functions and its capabilities.
  • Prepare documentation supporting potential system modifications or changes and analyze the use of existing systems to identify problems and determine resolutions. Ensure accurate data flow between systems; recommend modifications to application design or current procedures to maximize advantages of existing resources or processes.
  • Support the accurate and timely administration of garnishments working directly with Third party vendor
  • Coordinate with third party payroll vendor to ensure the accurate set up and system maintenance of SUI rates, registration of new accounts when required and verification of SUI rates by work location. Working directly with federal/state/local agencies to resolve tax notices and coordinate communications with third party payroll vendor.
  • Coordinates efforts between payroll, human resources, finance, benefits, and other departments to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data.

What we're looking for

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field
  • ADP Globalview experience a plus
  • Minimum 3-5 years payroll experience with prior experience in an organization of 2,000+ associates and multi-state locations strongly preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Payroll and Accounting procedures, multi-state wage and hour laws, payroll tax and regulations.
  • SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to effectively handle and resolve employee inquiries and issues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion. Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
  • Excellent skills using MS Word and Excel,
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and juggle between regional, divisional and corporate demands
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed
