Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for directing the day-to-day manufacturing operations of the facility, including production management and scheduling, materials management, shipping and receiving, machine utilization, quality standards, plant capacity, material requirements planning, cost containment, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives. This position ensures the quality and timely production of whole goods and parts in accordance with the production schedule.
This role is also responsible for developing and executing plans to improve productivity, efficiency, and overall operational performance, while maintaining a safe work environment, reliable equipment and facilities, and appropriate staffing levels. The Operations Manager will perform these duties directly and through their leadership team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead daily manufacturing operations across production, materials, shipping/receiving, and quality.
- Establish staffing levels and labor schedules based on workloads, production demands, and business needs.
- Develop and maintain production schedules to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
- Drive productivity, efficiency, and cost improvement initiatives across operations.
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and operations staff to support performance and accountability.
- Ensure inventory accuracy and effective material flow throughout the operation.
- Partner with Engineering to support manufacturability and continuous improvement of products and processes.
- Work with Purchasing to support supplier performance, material availability, and resolution of supply issues.
- Support and drive Lean manufacturing initiatives and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards and regulations.
- Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Participate in performance management activities, including evaluations and employee development.
- Recommend and support personnel actions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with leadership to review operational performance against budget and forecast.
- Support communication across functions related to production, service parts, and operational performance.
- Remain current on manufacturing tools, techniques, and industry best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, including fabrication, welding, assembly, and related processes.
- Demonstrated experience improving productivity, reducing costs, and driving operational performance.
- Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to motivate and hold teams accountable.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of inventory management and production planning concepts.
- Understanding of OSHA regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and standard business software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of manufacturing and supervisory experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
