Senior Manager, Content Strategy

Overview:

The Weedmaps Content Strategist oversees content development and publishing for their assigned portfolio of Weedmaps content platforms. They are accountable for executing strategic content marketing initiatives to create engaging content that accomplishes key content goals. They are experienced in recruiting and managing a freelance team and project managing tasks in a memorialized workflow to meet deadlines. Overall, they are creative leaders who have mastered written and visual communications. They understand how to develop content platforms that perform well against various metrics, from SEO to user engagement.

The impact you'll make:

• Oversee strategy development and content creation for assigned portfolio/platform
• Develop platform-specific content that's in alignment with WM strategic initiatives
• Ensure content is up-to-date and accurate at all times
• Own the copy production process for assigned projects and complete them on time
• Ensure content is developed with SEO best practices
• Work with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the successful execution of initiatives
• Assess the scope of projects to forecast proper deadlines and work back schedules
• Keep a read on the statuses of projects and articulate challenges and successes to stakeholders
• Gather Insights and Recommend Changes
• Work with colleagues to gather data-driven insights about content performance
• Utilize gathered insights to make regular recommendations on strategic shifts in content production and planning.
• Make the proper connections with other industry experts and maintain working relationships to keep content up to date with industry trends.
• Recruit freelance writers, editors, and journalists and maintain freelance roster
• Keep up with other cannabis-focused content and authors in the cannabis space. Actively recruit top talent and onboard into freelance roster.
• Be the main point of contact for independent contractors for assigned content platform and train them on content standards, workflows, and payment.
• Provide clear assignment instructions and meaningful feedback to writers and editors to improve the quality of content and maintain a high standard and the health of the freelance roster.

What you've accomplished:

• Experience making content for websites and growing a captive audience
• A BA/BS in Communications, Marketing, or other related disciplines
• 7+ years experience working in a content development or editorial setting
• Strong project management skills, and prioritization abilities
• Extremely articulate and master of written English
• Experience managing positive, effective third-party relationships

Bonus Points:

• Experience in driving content for the cannabis industry
• Experience with WordPress, Jira/Confluence, and G-Suite
• Experience building marketing campaigns 
• An understanding of how to build content for a specific audience type or business objective

The base pay range for this position is: $155,000.00 - $170,000.00
