Summary
- Ensuring effective hazard risk management, and implementing those measures. Identifying, measuring and managing insurable or hazard risks, analyzing risk/insurance problems, directing a program to ensure the proper and efficient handling of claims, gathering data on claims for both record keeping and loss forecasting purposes and defining and/or overseeing the implementation of the risk solutions that help optimize operations.
- Working with the Executive Director to advise in the purchase of hazard and liability insurance programs, managing claims and loss control activities, updating and monitoring compliance with insurance procedures and managing safety/risk management manuals.
- Updating job requirements and job descriptions for all F.M.C. positions in cooperation with City of New Orleans Civil Service and coordinating with Civil Service's testing and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes.
- Ensuring planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; and counseling employees and supervisors.
- Maintaining and managing the employee benefits programs and managing accountabilities in the administration of first and third party worker's compensation claims, and other related duties as required.
Examples of duties
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four years* of progressively responsible administrative exempt (salaried) level professional experience in human resources, risk management, organizational development, an insurance liability program, employee benefits and/or closely related field. Professional experience must have been gained after the receipt of a Bachelor's degree.
Qualifications
A written examination weighted 100%.The written test is designed to measure: Basic Management Principles, Decision Making & Organizing, Interpersonal Skills, Written Communication and Mathematics.
This is an original entrance examination.

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. Public safety employees such as commissioned law enforcement officers hired by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), firefighters hired by the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), emergency medical technicians hired by the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) and the recruits for these positions hired by these departments are excluded from this provision. Airport employees are excluded from this provision if the actual domicile of the employee is nearer to the employee’s job site than the distance from the job site to the nearest point of Orleans Parish.
