POSITION SUMMARY:

The Phlebotomist supports all sections of the Clinical Outpatient Laboratory through proper phlebotomy techniques as well as proper specimen accessioning, processing and related activities. Use of correct blood collection tubes, ordering correct test from requisitions. Match identifiers to information on requisition and labels. Obtain blood from patient using proper phlebotomy techniques for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donation, or research. Resolve specimen and patient problems as they arise. Follows all UAMS Department of Pathology Policies and Procedures for blood collection. Obtains patient specimens at an acceptable rate. This position also assists with access coordinator responsibilities including opening/closing of clinic and will participate in the training of new employees.

This is a split position with Patient Care Tech. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team.
