Ardelyx is a publicly traded commercial biopharmaceutical company founded with a mission to discover, develop and commercialize innovative first-in-class medicines that meet significant unmet medical needs. Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA® (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH® (tenapanor). Ardelyx has agreements for the development and commercialization of tenapanor outside of the U.S. Kyowa Kirin commercializes PHOZEVEL® (tenapanor) for hyperphosphatemia in Japan. A New Drug Application for tenapanor for hyperphosphatemia has been approved in China with Fosun Pharma. Knight Therapeutics commercializes IBSRELA in Canada. Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Corporate Development and Strategy Manager, the Corporate Development Transactions Intern will gain hands-on experience in biopharmaceutical corporate development and the steps involved in executing strategic transactions. The intern will learn to use market intelligence and financial databases to interpret large datasets, analyze the financials and strategies of potential targets, and develop recommendations that inform future corporate development activities. This role will also support ad hoc projects, providing exposure to business, finance, and scientific analysis in a biopharma setting. Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, including financial performance, pipeline, portfolio fit, and strategic positioning.
- Learn and utilize market intelligence and financial databases to source and evaluate potential transaction targets.
- Interpret and synthesize large datasets into concise, actionable insights for the corporate development team.
- Prepare clear, well-structured presentations and summaries outlining company profiles, key findings, and recommended next steps.
- Support corporate development team members on ad hoc analyses related to screening, sourcing, and transaction assessment.
- Track and organize research, assumptions, and outputs to ensure work is reproducible and easy to reference.
- Development of structured, repeatable approaches for analyzing biopharmaceutical companies using market and financial databases.
- Presentation materials (e.g., slide decks, written summaries) that provide recommendations on potential targets and next steps for the corporate development team.
- Direct support to screening and sourcing activities that contributes to the early-stage evaluation of future transactions.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Life Sciences, or a related field with strong quantitative and analytical components.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with and interpret large datasets.
- Interest in biopharmaceuticals, corporate strategy, and transactions (M&A, partnerships, licensing).
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint, and comfort learning new data and research tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and structure.
- Practical experience in biopharmaceutical corporate development, from screening to early-stage evaluation of potential transactions.
- Skills in using market and financial databases to analyze companies and industries.
- Exposure to how business, finance, and scientific considerations come together in strategic decision-making.
- Concrete work products (analyses and presentations) that demonstrate your ability to support corporate development activities.
- Hybrid position with 3 days in office in Waltham, MA.
