To assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by producing diagnostic MR scans of various organs and structures of the human body. Operates with minimal supervision, uses independent judgment to determine quality of images, and compliance with established protocols.

PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY): 

• Engages in population appropriate communication.
• Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
• Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
• Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Job Skills/Knowledge:

Performs all aspects of Magnetic Resonance Imaging according to established protocols, which includes, but is not limited to, reviewing for appropriateness and completeness of patient histories and requests for services.  Explains procedures and ensures that informed consent for invasive procedures has been obtained.

MRI Safety:

Reviews completed MRI safety sheet for patient and any other person entering the magnet area.  Positions patients and provides for their protection from magnetic hazard.  Selects and operates complex imaging equipment.  Regulates exposure factors and other technical factors on individual patients.  Reviews films for diagnostic acceptability.

Patient Care:

Reviews patient medication reconciliation form, administering contrast based on MRI protocol.  Prepares and administers, orally and by intravenous injection, contrast media or medications under physician direction.  Provides routine patient care while patients are in the department.  Practices aseptic and sterile technique to prevent the spread of disease.  Administers or assists in administering CPR or emergency procedures as needed.

Continuing Education:

Instructs Radiologic Technology students in methods and procedures. Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Magnetic Resonance and its subspecialties.  Demonstrates and maintains skills in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as geriatric and neonatal, through in-service and continuing education.

Cleanliness/Supplies:

Maintains the MR area through regular stocking and cleaning. Reports supply shortages to lead or manager. Uses appropriate cleaning supplies for each piece of equipment and situation.

Quality:

Performs evaluative equipment tests; participates in (or is responsible for) quality control program and recording results.

Accessory duties:

All other duties that assist in the operations of the department, accepts additional responsibilities to improve department performance, including but not limited to, cleaning and stocking.

Minimum Required: Associate's Degree - Radiologic Technology. Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree - Radiologic Technology. | Completion of JRCERT approved program in Radiologic Technology or an Associate of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. Successfully completed and passed MRI registry. Must participate in continuing education activities in accordance to the ARRT guidelines. Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association must be held. | Prefer one year of experience but not necessary.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
•   Must complete at least 24 hours of direct credit continuing education every 2 years
