Advanced Development Senior Engineer
Seagate TechnologyAbout the role
About our group:
To address the rising global demand in data usage and storage, Seagate pushes the forefront of memory storage by engineering new technologies to achieve unparallel storage density in next-generation Hard Disk Drives (HDDs).
Our design team leads the modelling and development efforts for device performance and reliability using mechanically driven solutions at the micro- and nanoscale. We focus on invention, design, and demonstration of technologies for future data storage devices.
About the role - you will:
- Work with advanced development and product development teams in the areas of materials development and performance, microscale tribology, surface chemistry, thin film mechanics, surface process development, and magnetic recording.
- Develop experience in the process of taking a nanoscale design concept from modeling through wafer fabrication, test, and evaluation, to pre-production stages in a work environment that is dynamic and cross-functional.
- Work with magnetic, plasmonic, mechanical, and optical design teams to deliver advanced Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording technologies.
- Utilize design-of-experiments, machine learning, and statistical analysis techniques to develop fundamental understanding of interface mechanical performance and apply that understanding to guide new design directions.
- Summarize and communicate results to teams from a diverse set of engineering disciplines.
- Have direct impact on the technology development pipeline for future data storage devices.
About you:
- Strong experimental technical skills and experience in the areas of materials science, physics, surface chemistry, mechanics, and materials processing.
- Have demonstrated a combination of leadership and strong teamwork skills that you will apply to initiate, execute, and collaborate on technology development projects.
Your experience includes:
- Micro- or Nano-scale science or technology development
- Strong experimental and analysis skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across diverse engineering teams
- A Ph.D. in an engineering or scientific discipline - strong academic background in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics, or related field
