Space Systems and Orbit Determination Operations Engineer
The Aerospace CorporationAbout the role
The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.
The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace’s strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space and space-enabled capabilities.
The Space Control and Awareness Department (SCAD) is seeking a new team member to support space mission analyses and operations. SCAD performs concept development, systems engineering, mission support, architecture analysis, algorithm development, and evaluation support for national security space customers. Mission areas include space domain awareness (SDA), positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT), command and control (C2), electronic warfare (EW), and space protection and security; key technologies include Kalman filtering and orbit determination (OD) algorithms, as well as radar, electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensors.
Work Model: This is a 100% on-site position located in Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, or Chantilly VA.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide support for space domain awareness and PNT mission areas through analysis, algorithm development, systems engineering, and modeling and simulation (M&S).
Advise and support key stakeholders and government customers by planning, executing, and reporting on analytic studies
Provide astrodynamic analytical support, algorithm development, systems engineering and architecting, and modeling and simulation analysis for space surveillance systems and missions.
Conduct analyses leveraging in-house, commercial, and government-provided M&S and analysis capabilities
Develop system specifications, conduct tests, support exercises, and evaluate training requirements for space systems
