As Pharmacy Clinical Specialist, you will coordinate and provide pharmaceutical care for patients in an ambulatory setting. This role is critical to the Pharmacy team, as you ensure both patients and caregivers feel informed and educated about specific medications, dosages and other pertinent pharmaceutical information. You will also have the chance to enhance your skills through hands-on patient care, professional development courses and more offered within the Cleveland Clinic system.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm as well as occasional evenings, every 6th weekend and 2 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition.
- Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and, and other health care professionals.
- Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs.
- Maintain expertise in areas of practice through continual learning, journal review and other educational activities.
- Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-Graduate Trainees and other caregivers in Pharmacotherapy within in the specialty area.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
- Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations)
- For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA), or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire, is required.
- Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Board certification
- Care/Emergency Medicine experience
