About the role

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a leadership role in the Connecticut/Massachusetts region and is responsible for aligning, advising and consulting with the food and beverage business leaders and managers to drive people initiatives including recruiting & hiring, training, employee relations, retention, performance management and compliance. The HRBP collaborates with Operations leaders on assessing and anticipating HR-related needs and developing and delivering needed talent solutions for Travel Plaza sites throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. This position requires the HRBP to spend significant time traveling throughout the region. A company car will be provided for this purpose.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruiting & Hiring

  • Partner with District Managers and Site Managers on developing and executing productive recruiting strategies.
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in local hiring initiatives and events (job fairs, college recruiting, job fairs).
  • Lead recruiting and hiring of District Managers and other regional operations roles including sourcing candidates, interviewing, managing hiring and onboarding processes.
  • Ensure effective and compliant hiring practices are in place and followed.
  • Coordinate recruiting campaigns for occasional new site openings.
  • Decision background checks when required and take appropriate follow up action.

Training

  • Oversee facilitation of onboarding/orientation programs.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate operational and people-related training programs to address regional and local needs, including the development of training materials and facilitating training sessions.

Employee Relations & Retention

  • Promote a positive and productive environment by coaching and advising managers in employee relations best practices regarding conflict resolution, performance issues and employee grievances.
  • Diagnose root causes; conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations and recommend appropriate actions in compliance with collective bargaining agreement.
  • Identify retention trends and opportunities by conducting stay interviews and exit interviews.
  • Ensure company level employee engagement initiatives are implemented.
  • Promote associate recognition among management teams in the region.

Talent and Performance Management

  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Analyze human resources data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the region’s talent planning including workforce planning, talent reviews, and succession planning.

Compliance

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with legal counsel as needed/required.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, all federal and state laws and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation for HR-related policies and procedures.
