The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. 

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of duties related to Human Resources, compliance tracking, reporting, business processes and procedures, as well as special projects. Additionally, the intern will gain valuable exposure to the realm of Human Resources by actively contributing to regional HR initiatives. This multifaceted role offers a chance to make a meaningful impact while honing essential skills for a well-rounded professional journey.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/20/2024 – 8/9/2024
  • Remote Position
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriches your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Review and update organization charts, offer feedback, and fresh perspective on content and format.
  • Understand and support the process for student volunteers, background checks, and equipment/system access requirements.
  • Assist in the tracking and auditing of the regional volunteer/internship program.
  • Provide Wellness program support to include learning the benefits and details of the Wellness Program, collaborate, and support the regional wellness team with program goals, initiatives, and communication.
  • HeartU Compliance Course Tracking and follow-up.
  • Overtime Reporting and other reporting as needed.

Qualifications

  • Working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in HR, Communications, or related field.
  • Desire to learn the principles and practices of Human Resources.
  • Ability to work both independently and in team settings and able to meet deadlines. 
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, problem-solving, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional interaction with colleagues.  
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of Canva is helpful.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30 am-5 pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future.  For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
