Private School Kitchen Manager

Merritt Academy is looking for an experienced and reliable Kitchen Manager. The successful candidate will manage the food service department with the food ordering, delivery and preparation; and be responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen. The Kitchen Manager must be knowledgeable of the procedures, practices, operations, and equipment of institutional food preparation; ability to organize, supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates; ability to manually move, shelve, stack, or raise from floor to table or serving area, heavy objects (pots, pans, trays, and food supplies); ability to understand and adhere to safety procedures; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English to ensure safety of food preparation and service; and ability to operate all related computerized programs; ability to ensure that lunches and snacks are prepared in quantities specified by the daily classroom counts; ability to ensure children’s’ meals are served according to VDSS portion guidelines and requirements and ability to ensure Health Department guidelines are met.

In order to be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements, including:

• Food Managers Certificate or equivalent
• High school diploma preferred.
• Experience with preparation of food for large groups, preferably in an education setting
• Pass pre-employment screening
• Ability to maintain a clean kitchen
• Knowledge of sanitization requirements for kitchen utensils and equipment
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs
