JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) to provide professional research assistance to a faculty member. This position focuses on two research areas:

  1. Generative AI Security – studying adversarial robustness, trustworthy AI, and vulnerabilities in large-scale machine learning systems.
  2. Information Freshness in Wireless Networks – analyzing and optimizing timeliness of information delivery, latency, and age-of-information metrics in networked systems.

This role is ideal for graduate students who want to develop advanced research skills while contributing to cutting-edge projects in computing, AI, and wireless communication.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Graduate Assistants may:

  1. Conduct literature reviews and summarize research findings.
  2. Assist with experiments, simulations, coding, and data analysis.
  3. Develop and test research software or tools (e.g., for AI or wireless simulation).
  4. Prepare reports, manuscripts, or conference papers.
  5. Visualize results and contribute to research presentations.
  6. Participate in regular research meetings with the supervising faculty member.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be a current CSUSB graduate student in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  2. Minimum GPA: 3.0
  3. Strong programming ability (e.g., Python, C++, or Java).
  4. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in hand by time of appointment. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Coursework or project experience in machine learning, AI, cybersecurity, or wireless networks.
  2. Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), generative AI models (e.g., large language models, diffusion models), or network simulation tools (e.g., ns-3).
  3. Prior research experience in academia or industry.
  4. Proficiency with LaTeX and technical writing.
