  1. BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to maintain a compassionate attitude and smooth workflow in meeting or referring public assistance requests, recruiting and overseeing the work of volunteers and to provide administrative and clerical support to the Officers. The underlying theme of all established programs will be to express the love of Jesus Christ and to reach out to the community no matter where they may stand in their walk of faith.

 

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  2. Assist in providing the public with year-round services as outlined by the Corps Officers based on budget allowances and resource provision such as, but not limited to: COVID-19 relief services; Wednesday Fresh Foods; emergency food boxes; emergency housing; utility assistance; educational classes; computer lab and mobile assistance.
  3. Organize and implement seasonal assistance including but not limited to intake for holiday food boxes and toys; distribution of holiday food and toys; toy collection locations and Angel Tree tag dispensing, as well as all related public promotion and correspondence.
  4. Recruit, register and maintain a file on all volunteers for the Carson City Corps and assist in the planning and coordinating of the annal Volunteer Celebration each February.
  5. Maintain proper records required by The Salvation Army policy for the services outlined above, such as statistics, gifts in kind, clientele files, volunteer files. Prepare reports required by other agencies that provide funding or resources for specific services, such as SHARE and the Food Bank.
  6. Order pantry supplies as needed. Organize and participate in food bank pickups.
  7. Greet the public in a friendly, compassionate and welcoming manner over the phone and in person, affirming that we strive to provide support and hope.
  8. Provide the Corps Officers access to any files, records or background information as requested.
  9. Follow all Salvation Army policies, procedures and guidelines.
  10. Maintain strict office hours to ensure consistency in service provision to the public as advertised. Client appointments will be utilized but not required with individuals being seen on a first come, first serve basis.
  11. Strictly maintain the confidentiality of clients past and present from other clientele and public inquiries or personal speculation.
  12. Represent The Salvation Army in a positive and consistent manner as a member of various coalitions, councils, provider groups, etc. as assigned.
  13. Assist with the planning, decorating, preparing and implementation of special events such as outreach events, funerals, weddings, etc.
  14. Assist in providing transportation for Corps programs, such as youth programs, church events and seasonal activities.
  15. Assist in supervising children as needed in Summer Day Camp, troops and other programs.
  16. Respond to all phone messages within 24 hours of receipt.
  17. Maintain cleanliness and order within the Family Services Office and food pantry at all times. This includes daily organization of pantry shelves and food donations, inventory and tracking of supplies and resources and discarding of expired food.
  18. Communicate with other agencies and the community as to the services The Salvation Army provides to ensure that clients are not receiving duplicate assistance and to promote community volunteerism.
  19. Other related duties as assigned by Corps Officers.

 

  1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
  2. Possess an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy and practices with a willingness to promote same.
  3. Ability to work with minimal supervision, being prepared to encounter a variety of assignments and timelines in a rapidly changing work environment with multiple priorities.
  4. Ability to speak, read and write the English language at a high and professional level. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
  5. High level of confidentiality a must.
  6. Computer literate in Windows environment with the capability of learning company software.
  7. Ability to operate basic office equipment.
  8. Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
  9. Demonstrate good judgement and act in a professional manner, working well with and relating to people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  10. Able to work within the hours
