Do you want to be part of delivering a modern communication system for the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC)?  

The Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team at Collins Aerospace has been selected by the US Air Force to deliver a modern communication system for the service’s future Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC).   

As a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, you will develop and validate system models and designs for Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) mission systems solutions used on our military customers’ aircraft and ground stations.   

This position is located in Richardson, TX and is eligible for relocation. 

What YOU will do:  

  • You will be responsible for projects spanning the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, trade study, system design, requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification.  
  • You will be responsible for providing technical guidance to multidisciplined teams, leading effective working sessions, cultivating and reinforcing group values, and identifying, analyzing and correcting technical problems.  
  • You will serve as the primary technology and systems engineering focal point for leadership and the customer for ISSE mission equipment packages/solutions.  
  • You will apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle.   
  • You will lead system integration and troubleshooting for complex embedded software applications, hardware, LRU’s, and system of systems environments.   
  • You will lead engineering teams to understand, analyze, and develop the models, requirements, and designs using enterprise standard tools, processes, and industry best practices.   
  • You will lead technical proposal preparation and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.   
  • You will ensure the development and management of technical risks and develop and execute mitigation plans.  
  • You will recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization's projects.  
  • You will monitor cost and schedule and reporting project status to program management and engineering leadership.   
  • You will lead development and communication of roadmaps for ISSE projects, associated technologies, and product lines.  
  • You will establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers.  
  • You will coordinate across strategic business units for alignment of portfolio roadmaps.   

  
Qualifications YOU must have:  

  • Previous professional experience in leading System and product design, Requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control, integration and test, and aircraft level system integration. 
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect   
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.  
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. 
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience. 
  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 20% of time).  

  

Skills we value:  

  • Understanding of co-site analysis.  
  • Experience with open system architecture development, including systems, software, and hardware development throughout all phases of a program lifecycle.  
  • Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience.  
  • Executing product and system level tests to include experience with automation test tools or scripting.    
  • Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO254, DO178B/C, or ARP4754.   
  • Experience with various communication and networking protocols: MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols, and TCP/IP network applications.   
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with SW, Integration and Verification teams.
