A Day in the Life
You will be a key member of Medtronic’s Robotic Surgical Technologies R&D - Released Product Engineering (RPE) team, working to support the design of our launched Hugo robot. You will be a critical member of projects related to cost down, component end-of-life issues, field complaint resolution implementation, and more, in a very visible and fast-paced role.The RPE Engineer will work closely with the project management office, Medtronic design engineers, and our contract manufacturing sites. You will be able to dive in deep technically, and lead design change initiatives on the capital equipment products used in Robotic Surgery. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are critical to success in this role, as is the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

The Medical Surgical business unit set the standard for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) by creating innovative surgical products and services that focus on obesity and diseases and conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, lung, abdominal wall, pelvic region, and the head and neck.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Lead change development plan for design changes to Hugo
- Be central communication point for all project related activity
- Work with engineers to develop a deep understanding of the technological underpinnings of the system
- Assess timeline impacts against project schedule
- Perform action item follow up
- Create purchase requisitions
- Deliver meeting minutes
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
- 5-7 years of medical device engineering experience
- Experience with a large company with a global footprint, understanding of matrix structures, and having project management experience executing goals with cross functional teams using Agile/Scrum/SAFe methodologies
- Thorough understanding of product development life cycle/process
- Understanding the role of a Product owner using an Agile environment
- Experience building and prioritizing backlogs
- Understanding of the change development process (CDP) for implementing small-med-large projects
- Understanding/experience with executing corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and championing cause-map activities with broad cross-functional teams
- Medical product development experience including hands-on experience with medical/surgical devices/instruments; familiarity with medical device regulations including IEC 62304
- Experience SDLC process and tools including JIRA and AGILE PLM/PQM
- Ability to work with QA to ensure testing meets Quality and Regulatory needs
- Ability to work with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers when discovering, documenting, and resolving integration issues.
