Sr. Academic Advisor (Hybrid)

What You'll Do:
- Advises current and potential students regarding course choices, major selection, progress toward graduation, professional options,career opportunities, and tuition/financial implications. Refers students to other university offices when necessary.
- Leads and coordinates holistic academic advising initiatives at the department/program level. May assign appropriate faculty advisors to students based on their academic interests; creates and maintains advising support materials for students and faculty in multiple print and electronic formats; trains faculty on model advising practices; supports faculty mentoring efforts; makes recommendations to the chair and the Dean's Office regarding course placements, substitutions, and waivers; and may represent the department at Admission events and in Career Center initiatives.
- Attends bi-monthly meetings with the LAS Advising Services staff and meetings for assigned/associated departments/programs; provides regular feedback to Advising Services on advising process (new student advising, probation and dismissal, graduation) leaders; assists the Associate Director with accurately accounting for all program requirement changes; transfer credit approvals, assists with degree conferral and newly declared students' record analysis, and ensuring the appropriate application of college credit toward the degrees of new, continuing, and graduating students using the Degree Progress Report.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or counseling preferred.
- Two years of full-time experience in academic advising or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a group when needed.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies using good and independent judgement.
- Ability to juggle numerous projects and tasks simultaneously, and to meet deadlines for each.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office, PeopleSoft, and social media platforms.
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
