Job Description
AECOM is looking for a part time (20-30 hours per week) Chemist/Data Validation Specialist with experience validating high resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HR GC/MS) analyses. The position is based out of our Chelmsford, MA office, although the work may be done remotely. The selected candidate will be tasked with providing technical expertise and specialized consulting advice in Environmental Analytical Chemistry. The Chemist's primary role will be to validate analytical data and write data validation reports.
The Chemist may assist proposal teams with selection of analytical methodology, evaluate laboratory proposals, and establish QA/QC parameters. They will work with laboratories to ensure data meets technical requirements and project data quality objectives. Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills are critical, as is the ability to work effectively with team members and independently. The selected candidate must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, and deliver on time and on budget.
The job responsibilities for this position include those listed above and may also include but are not limited to:
- Validate analytical data in accordance with published guidelines (NFG, DoD, Regional EPA)
- Develop data validation procedures for unique analyses not addressed specifically in existing guidance documents.
- Perform peer review of data validation reports and other project documents to ensure accuracy and consistency with project requirements.
- Summarize analytical data quality in Data Usability Assessments (DUAs) at the conclusion of the project.
- Provide training and guidance to entry and mid-level chemists.
- Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with Project/Senior Chemists on a regular basis.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in Chemistry or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Experience validating HR-GCMS data
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Chemistry or related field
- 7+ years working in an environmental analytical laboratory and/or performing data validation
- Experience with validation of radiochemical data
- Experience with validation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) data
- Understanding of operation and use of analytical laboratory equipment (e.g., ICP, ICP-MS, HPLC, GC, and/or GC/MS)
- Experience with EPA National Functional Guidelines for Data Review
- Familiarity with automated data review systems such as EDMS, FUDSChem, or EPA EXES
- Familiarity with Earth Soft's EQuIS database program
