Head of Risk Financing Analytics
Liberty Mutual InsuranceAbout the role
Description
The Head of Risk Financing Analytics supplies the quantitative insights that underpin every reinsurance and alternative-capital decision across Liberty Mutual’s property and non-property portfolios. Reporting to the Head of Risk Financing and working hand-in-hand with the Corporate Economic Capital Model (ECM) team, Business-Unit CUOs, and Chief Actuaries, this leader converts capital-model outputs, portfolio-volatility projections, and market intelligence into deal-level analytics that show whether a proposed structure is accretive or dilutive to return on capital.
In this role, the leader must possess expert knowledge of data sources and modeling methodologies required to evaluate treaty performance and possess an ability to translate analytical findings into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Responsibilities span scenario design for lightly modelled lines, clash and correlation studies, cost-of-capital calculations, and rating-agency model runs—providing the analytical backbone for the enterprise reinsurance strategy framework.
Core Accountabilities:
1 — Analytics Strategy & Model Alignment
- Champion consistent use of corporate ECM and rating-agency capital tools (BCAR, S&P, Moody's) for all risk-financing decisions.
- Partner with the ECM team, CUOs, and Chief Actuaries to validate assumptions and ensure portfolio risks are accurately reflected in model inputs.
2 — Deal-Level Analytics & Cost-of-Capital Evaluation
- Produce structure-specific analyses quantifying capital usage, earnings-volatility impact, and total-return metrics; identify whether each deal is accretive or dilutive on both regulatory and economic-capital bases.
- Build scenario tests for lightly or non-modelled exposures, differentiating per-risk vs per-occurrence triggers and portfolio correlations.
3 — Market Intelligence & Negotiation Support
- Deliver benchmarking, price-discovery, and capacity-trend insights to Risk-Financing Directors and brokers before and during negotiations.
- Translate quantitative findings into concise talking points that strengthen market positioning without duplicating CRO/CUO reporting.
4 — Data Management, Reporting & Rating-Agency Engagement
- Own the data pipeline, submission packs, and KPI dashboards that feed placement decisions, Board reporting, and regulatory filings.
- Run rating-agency capital models and craft supporting narratives for annual and ad-hoc reviews in collaboration with Finance and Capital-Management teams.
5 — Talent Development & Leadership
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of actuaries, data scientists, and treaty pool; foster an innovation culture that leverages advanced analytics and AI techniques.
- Provide clear career paths, cross-training, and succession planning.
- Act as analytical thought partner and trusted advisor across capital management pillars (e.g., reinsurance impact on M&A attractiveness).
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor's in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 10 + years in P&C insurance/reinsurance analytics, including hands-on use of ECM and rating-agency capital models and leadership of multidisciplinary analytics teams.
- Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of ECM, BCAR, S&P, and Moody’s frameworks; scenario and stochastic modelling; SQL/Python/R; and modern data-visualization tools, leverage AI techniques streamlining workflow.
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to translate analytics into actionable recommendations that drive capital-efficient, return-accretive reinsurance structures.
- Communication & Influence: Exceptional skill distilling complex quantitative concepts into clear guidance for actuaries, underwriters, brokers, and market counterparts.
- People Leadership — Proven success attracting, developing, and retaining high-performing analytic talent within a dynamic, global environment.
