North Laurel Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our supportive, collaborative team. We’re searching for someone who is compassionate, motivated, detail-oriented, and ready to provide critical support to our veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys variety. From assisting with patient care and laboratory procedures to communicating with clients and supporting front desk workflows, you’ll play an important role in keeping our hospital running smoothly and providing exceptional care to pets and their families.

What You’ll Do
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient restraint during exams, treatments, and blood draws
- Help ensure the safety and comfort of patients and team members during procedures
- Prepare, clean, and sterilize surgical suites, instruments, and equipment
- Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in patient status to the medical team
- Assist with basic laboratory procedures, including preparing fecal, urine, and blood samples
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records, including patient histories, vitals, and treatments
- Clean, sanitize, and stock exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels
- Feed, walk, and provide routine care for hospitalized patients and boarders
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to management
- Greet clients and patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out as needed
- Educate clients on basic pet care, preventatives, and post-appointment instructions
- Answer phones and schedule appointments
- Complete pharmacy refill requests
- Process client payments and support front desk workflows
What You’ll Bring
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of veterinary hospital experience preferred
- Knowledge of animal restraint techniques and basic veterinary terminology
- Basic knowledge of veterinary pharmacology
- Experience with veterinary practice management software
- Strong communication and client service skills
- The ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and stand for extended periods
- A strong work ethic and exceptional attention to detail
- A calm and professional approach in a fast-paced environment
- A team-first mindset and willingness to support coworkers throughout the hospital
