Triage and Crisis Clinicians provide individual clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and short-term therapeutic services. Triage and Crisis Clinicians also engage with the campus community via outreach and consultation services with faculty, staff, students, and families around mental health concerns. Clinicians in the center also participate in clinical training and supervision as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
Approximately 80 percent of workload is direct clinical service via client care in the form of facilitating the initial triage assessment or crisis interventions, with the remainder focused on documentation, administration, meetings, outreach, or trainings. The Student Counseling Center’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional needs for outreach or campus support on mornings, evenings, or weekends in response to campus needs or in response to critical incidents.
Required Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services Field, Marriage & Family Therapy
Experience: Licensed or license eligible as a Mental Health Service Provider in the State of Tennessee as a Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist, or other clinical license. May be pre-licensed professional willing to work under clinical supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong communication/interpersonal/organizational skills.
- Knowledge of DSM/ICD diagnoses, clinical assessment, intervention, and safety planning.
- Ability to complete timely, accurate documentation within accepted standards of practice.
- Ability to conduct risk assessment, triage, and clinical interviews.
- Ability to make accurate clinical decisions under time pressure and seek consultation when appropriate.
- Ability to provide effective/culturally competent clinical services to diverse student population.
- Ability to stay calm, grounded, and thoughtful under pressure.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: One year of experience providing services to a college population or a higher education setting; Two or more years of post-degree supervised clinical experience, with particular focus on SBIRT; One year or more of clinical experience in intake, crisis, high acuity, inpatient, or crisis stabilization setting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of relevant state statutes and federal laws unique to higher education clinical setting including FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and Title IX.
Knowledge of levels of care, involuntary and voluntary.

- Anticipated hiring range: $55,000-$70,000 dependent upon license, experience
