Maintenance Crew Leader (Athletic Fields)

Summary

Responsible for coordinating and assigning daily maintenance and work duties for City owned athletic facilities, amenities and equipment. Also responsible for maintaining communication with supervisors and workers to ensure the completion and quality of assigned duties.

Salary

$16.50 - $20.50 Depending on qualifications and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Maintain all athletic field amenities and equipment.

• Communication with supervisors to determine which current project needs attention for that day.

• Supervise and assist crewmembers in their daily work duties.

• Coordinate and assign daily work duties to staff as needed or in the absence of supervisor.

• Verify high quality work is completed for every task and provide constructive feedback when changes or enhancements need to be made.

• Operate various heavy equipment, power and hand tools to assist in the maintenance of park facilities and amenities, pools, playgrounds, park and athletic field equipment including fences and gates, signs, lighting and picnic equipment.

• Assist with minor plumbing and electrical repairs.

• Provide input regarding hiring and disciplinary actions.

• Complete written reports as required by management.

• May assist with the maintenance of other PRCAD area needs or projects including grounds and athletic field maintenance, irrigation and/or medians and right of ways.

• Assist in coordination of maintenance, repairs and projects with other city departments and outside vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

• 3 years of related experience

• Up to 1 year in a leadership role

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:     

• 3-5 years of experience in coordinating the efforts of maintenance crews
• 1 year experience in a leadership role
• State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License preferred, not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:            

• Comprehensive knowledge of safety methods and procedures used in equipment operation.

• Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices for maintaining and operating pool facilities and equipment, including methods and techniques of water sterilization and chemical balancing, troubleshooting chemical pumps, pool pumps, filters and vacuums.

• Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards and practices for playground equipment including safety inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance.

• Comprehensive knowledge of principles and techniques used in electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry work.

• Basic computer skills.

• Skill operating circular saw, chop saw, reciprocating saw, table saw, router.

• Skill operating power tools, drills, hand tools, ladders, welder, cutting torch.

• Skill operating tractor, heavy equipment

• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

• Ability to maintain professional relationships with subordinates’ customers and management.

• Experience with Toro Sandpro preferre

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Class C Texas driver’s license required

TDA Pesticide License preferred

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.  May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
