None/Not RequiredLooking to make an impact in engineering? Join our Hydro-Mechanical, Actuation & Pneumatic Valve Design Group as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You'll play a key role in developing innovative solutions for critical components, including jet fuel controls, actuators, and pneumatic valves.
In this role, you’ll design, test, and create parts while ensuring everything meets high engineering and safety standards. You'll focus on taking component requirements and transforming them into physical prototypes, all while balancing performance, cost, and size.
You’ll perform hand sizing calculations such as spring sizing and internal fluid flow utilizing standard design equations as well as internal tools built with VBA and Excel. You will also utilize advanced 3D analysis techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to ensure optimal design with high degrees of confidence in results. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the development of high-performance solutions that make a real difference.
What You Will Do
Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.
Design major components or major portions of functional systems or technically advanced prototypes using computer design and engineering systems
Develops data and make layouts, sketches, and notes for components as well as facilitating manufacturing improvements
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
Perform 1-D hand calculation analysis and complex 3-D simulations to aid in analysis of performance requirements
Generate solid models of components using 3-D modeling software such as NX Unigraphics to aid in packaging and weight estimations
Develop, test, and verify new analysis methods where applicable to improve the state-of-the-art capability of Collins Aerospace
Create presentations to discuss, explain and document work completed
Complete Standard Work documentation
Develop in-house tools where applicable to improve the ease of performing analysis
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Qualifications We Prefer
Experience with classical mechanical design analysis, including spring design, beam equations, pressure vessels, fluid flow, and thermal conduction.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
Experience with coding in VBA, Python, or similar programming languages.
