This facility is part of our Prepared Foods business unit and manufactures pork sausage chubs and patties.  

Job summary

Quality Assurance Technician meets its responsibilities in handling all product specifications without mistakes.  QA assist in monitoring and ensures that the plans and procedures for meeting the food safety goals of the company are being followed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Assist in managing and supervising personnel with department leads and supervisors of the production areas. Act as liaison between company personnel and USDA inspectors.
  • Direct and monitor food safety functions within company policies and procedures. Assist in monitoring and auditing, reporting adjustments as necessary for Food Safety. 
  • Ensure compliance with monitoring all company and regulatory product quality standards, sanitation standards, food safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards. Works closely with management and production personnel on food safety problems recommending changes to improve food safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Foster a well-trained and motivated staff.
  • Responsible for assisting in establishing all department work schedules. Assist in conducting production employee performance reviews. Assist in scheduling and conducting department meetings. Assist in providing for a Food Safety System and program that prescribes technically sound methods of operation for critical processes and generates sufficient records and evidence that provide confidence to customers.  Assist in reducing recall liability and ensure loss prevention techniques to reduce frequency. Assist in all mock recalls and traceability projects.  Assist in developing and monitoring programs to ensure the plain in maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.  Assist in training all employees in the requirements of HACCP, HARPC, and Food safety prerequisite programs and audit documentation to endure compliance.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  • Interpersonal skills, motivational skills, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Able to plan, lead, organize and control quality control activities.
  • Must have practical understanding of food processing, sanitation systems, HACCP, GMP, HARPC, BRC, and personnel management. 
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the food manufacturing industry OR related Quality Assurance type experience.
  • Working Conditions
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Must be able to bend/stoop while performing inspections. 
  • Working environment may be refrigerated, infrequently working in freezer, or hot areas. 
  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; steel-toed work boots, hardhats, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets (if applicable), and smocks.
  • Cell phones and jewelry are not permitted on the factory floor.
