About the role
Summary
The Executive Director II provides leadership, coordination,support and direction for the overall administration of all activities related to Facilities, Maintenance and Environmental services. The incumbent in this position assumes responsibility for strategic project work for assigned department(s) and managing resources needed to ensure successful outcomes of goals and objectives. The Executive Director is also responsible for developing and managing budgets for assigned department(s).
Essential Duties
- Establishes the priorities of the assigned department(s); Develops actionable, measurable, and progress-oriented strategies, goals, and objectives in alignment with division and district plans
- Implements strategies to assign roles, delegates responsibilities, and manages resources to maximize efficiency and effectiveness; Provides timely, quality, and friendly service to internal and external stakeholders for the assigned department(s)
- Attracts, recruits, and selects diverse top talent with skills aligned to the assigned department’s needs and quality service expectations
- Provides positive and collaborative leadership within the assigned department(s) by celebrating individual and collective success, sharing quality feedback and by using informal and formal evaluation processes with clear and consistent performance expectations
- Coordinates intra-departmental, inter-departmental work for the purpose of optimizing collective effort to achieve goals established for the assigned department(s), division, and district
- Makes accurate and timely reports to the Cabinet, Superintendent and Board as directed; Communicates to internal and external stakeholders on initiatives, progress, and developments for the department using a variety of strategies and modalities
- Develops and proposes budgets to meet the short- and long-term needs of the assigned department(s) using modified zero-based budgeting; Evaluates, authorizes, as may be necessary, and monitors all expenditures of the assigned budget for compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations
- Serves as advisor to Cabinet members and the Superintendent by providing critical, solution-oriented and candid feedback on issues pertaining to the district
- Represents the assigned department(s) at school, district, and community events upon request
- Assumes responsibility for the efficient operation of the Maintenance Services, Utilities Services, Environmental Services, and Facilities Services
- Exercises decision-making control and supervision of all Facilities and Maintenance department
- Monitors utilities, maintaining an energy conservation focus
- Consults with Chief Operations Officer as needed before approving Facilities and Maintenance projects
- Plans, prepares, executes, and evaluates the Facilities and Maintenance department budgets
- Evaluates the objectives achieved by each department within Facilities Services
- Ensures the effective utilization of computer technology in the Facilities Maintenance and Plant Services area
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Educational Administration/LeadershipBachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Public Administration or a related fieldCertification/Licensure

- Minimum 5 years of supervisory and/or administrative experience and 3 years of experience in operations
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of sound school business, facilities, maintenance, and plant services principles and procedures related to in-house and contracted delivery of services
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to school system business management and support areas
- Knowledge of facilities planning concepts, contract documents, construction and building codes, laws, and regulations
- Extensive knowledge of school system facilities operations including safety and security support
- Knowledge of environmental issues related to building operations and maintenance such as asbestos management and hazardous material management
- Understanding of the differences in technology implementations between education and commercial operations
- Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance and resource management skills
- Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement
