About the role

As a Principal Solutions Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing complex software solutions. Your expertise will span various databases, including Oracle, Kafka, SQL Server, Snowflake, and Big Data platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with customers, development teams, and other collaborators to address intricate technical challenges. Additionally, your ability to troubleshoot and optimize systems will be essential.

Responsibilities

  1. Architectural Leadership:
    • Provide comprehensive consultations to business leaders, IT management, and technical staff.
    • Offer guidance on architecture, integration, standard methodologies, and industry standards.
    • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies for solution design.
  2. Technical Design and Documentation:
    • Collaborate with software architecture design teams to create scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems.
    • Design technical architectures for complex solutions.
    • Develop and document design models, ensuring clarity and alignment with business requirements.
  3. Troubleshooting and Optimization:
    • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to replication software (e.g., Golden Gate).
    • Drill down into subsystems, including databases, SQL performance tuning, network tuning, and I/O optimization.
    • Create troubleshooting documents and step-by-step guides for problem resolution.
  4. Innovation and Collaboration:
    • Influence key architects’ viewpoints regarding system design and technology selections.
    • Analyze systems and try to predict failures and optimize performance based on historical data.
    • Collaborate with domain experts, data scientists, and big data platform architects to design efficient data ingestion frameworks.

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of Replication processes. GoldenGate, etc.
  • A basic understanding of REST
    • What is it?
  • A basic understanding of JSON
  • A basic understanding of DBMS endpoints (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL):
    • How do you connect to a database from a shell?
    • How do you create a table?
    • How do you get a table’s metadata?
    • How do you assign user privileges?
  • A basic understanding of Snowflake.
    • How do you connect to a database from a shell?
    • How do you find out what databases exist?
    • How do you create a table?
    • What are Snowflake primary keys used for?
  • A basic understanding of Kafka.
    • What is kafka?
    • What is a Broker, Producer, and Consumer?
    • What is a Topic?

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

Canada: Hiring Range from $76,700 to $167,000 CAD per annum 
US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity. 

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
9. 11 paid holidays
10. Paid sick leave: 72 hours of paid sick leave upon date of hire. Refreshes each calendar year. Unused balance will carry over each year up to a maximum cap of 112 hours.
