Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Political Economy

Tulane University
New Orleans, United Statesfull_timeVerifiedPosted 17 Aug 2025

About the role

Description

We seek to hire up to two assistant professors (tenure-track) with joint appointments in the Department of Philosophy and the Murphy Institute of Political Economy.  We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in ethics, social and political philosophy, and political economy.

Tulane’s Department of Philosophy offers both a robust undergraduate major and a vibrant PhD program, with strengths in moral and political philosophy, history of philosophy, and cognitive sciences. The Murphy Institute at Tulane is an intellectual center that provides undergraduate and graduate education in political economy, fosters ethical reflection on social values, and promotes research and outreach on public policy.

The successful candidate(s) will teach two courses per semester, equally split between the Department of Philosophy and the Murphy Institute, and be a full member of both programs. They will contribute to the Philosophy program at the undergraduate and graduate levels and should be able to offer undergraduate courses on political economy (including “Individual, Society, and State” and the major seminar in political economy) for the Murphy Institute annually. The expected start date for this position is July 1st, 2026. For further questions about the position, contact Mario Juarez-Garcia (search chair).

Qualifications

PhD in Philosophy preferred. Although ABD candidates will be considered, a terminal degree is required by the time of the initial appointment.
