Summary/Objective
The Field Chief serves as the lead for the community conservation strategic initiative and the community conservation strategic initiative team. The Field Chief coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to implement the strategic plan and promote community conservation initiatives and programs. Develops and coordinates community conservation training for the Department. Develops internal and external communications and outreach programs. Supervises community conservation planners.
Essential Job Duties
- Collaborate with eight Regional Administrators and regional Community Conservation Teams to implement a strategic plan; incorporate annual regional community conservation work objectives into respective work plans.
- Coordinate training for Department staff and partners for fish, forest, and wildlife resources; oversee the Conservation Planning Tools for Missouri Communities manual; Develop best management practices to ensure fish, forest, and wildlife resources are protected and conserved.
- Develop a standard for community conservation staffing needs and develop a long-term staffing plan to promote community conservation, sustainable design, and other conservation tools for the Department.
- Serve as the chair for the Community Conservation Strategic Initiative.
- Understand, value, and have the ability to build relationships and partnerships.
- Work with related branches to develop and implement conservation strategies and initiatives, including exploring conservation easements, improving public access, and identifying brownfields.
- Coordinate internal financial assistance resources for citizens and partners that emphasize community conservation, develop budget areas under Branch direction, and coordinate community conservation financial assistance opportunities.
- Establish an interdisciplinary Community Conservation Steering Committee to guide the work plan and provide direction for related teams.
- Oversee, develop, and coordinate interdivisional outreach materials for conservation priorities internally and externally, which includes project coordination and internal and external communications.
- Develop and present quarterly measure reports and serve on Outcome Team 2.1; prepare annual reports for Administration and Branch chiefs to communicate Department progress and ongoing efforts.
- Direct community conservation staff members, which includes work planning, hiring, disciplinary actions, budgetary approval, strategic direction, and policy procedures; serve as Branch lead for staff training.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in natural resource management or closely related field required.
- Master's Degree in human resources, public administration, landscape architecture, project management, natural resource management, or closely related field desired.
- 5-8 years related work experience required; 8+ years desired.
- Three (3) years supervisory work experience required; 5-8 years desired.
- Professional society certifications desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of project management, including proposals, planning, designing, and evaluating natural resource management projects.
- Understanding of Division programs.
- Understanding of computers, including use of Microsoft Office products.
- Understanding of human resources rules and policies.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and record keeping.
- Understanding of Geographic Information Systems.
- Budget development and implementation, including experience with large budgets.
