About the role

[What the role is]
Embark on an enriching career journey at the Environmental Health Institute (EHI), where your role encompasses the design and execution of both field and laboratory research. Areas of focus include (i) biosurveillance of the diversity, distribution, and ecology of rodents and their associated pathogens, and (ii) development of integrated mitigation strategies.

[What you will be working on]

You will work with stakeholders to translate scientific findings into policy and operations, and lead or contribute to the development of national environmental public health policies. As a member of the EHI family, you will have numerous opportunities for personal development, not only in science, but also in other areas such as leadership, management, and communication.

[What we are looking for]

  • Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree in Vector Ecology, Zoology, or a related life sciences field, and preferably with training in public health.
  • Experience in designing and leading research projects, including field studies. A record of high-quality scientific research, demonstrated by publication of peer-reviewed scientific journals, will be an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge in the systematics, biology, ecology, and field surveillance of vectors (including rodents) and their associated pathogens, including morpho-taxonomy and DNA barcoding
  • Experience in animal dissection is preferred
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques and working in high-containment laboratories
  • Proficient in biostatistics and use of statistical software
  • Possesses a valid class 3 licence and willingness to drive NEA’s vehicle to field sites is preferred
  • Excellent capacity for systems thinking and working with multiple stakeholders to translate research into public health policy and operations.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, interpersonal, and communications (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities at the same time
  • Self-driven and open to development opportunities
