We are hiring two Senior Scala Developers (or Java) for a hybrid role, based in Prague or Brno. The role requires a mix of office collaboration and remote work. We welcome backend Java developers interested in learning Scala, as future projects will be built in Java.

About the Team:

Our team manages the in-product messaging (IPM) platform, a vital business channel at Gen. We handle everything from high-performance backends that connect with most Gen products to admin UIs for campaign management. Our mission is to create the best monetization platform to support company growth.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced developer to work on our high-performance IPM backend, written in Scala. While Scala and functional programming experience are preferred, we also welcome Java developers eager to learn Scala. You will be responsible for developing the IPM backend, writing tests, managing pull requests, enhancing infrastructure, and collaborating closely with the team.

Our Tech Stack: Scala 2.1; Cats + Cats Effect libraries

What You Will Do in This Role: 

• Develop and improve Scala code in the IPM backend.

• Write unit and end-to-end tests.

• Identify and resolve production issues by analyzing logs.

• Enhance backend performance.

• Collaborate with team members to find optimal solutions.

• Participate in development activities, including code reviews, grooming sessions, and team syncs.

• Influence team processes by contributing to retrospectives and other meetings.

​​What You’ll Need to be Successful in this Role:

• 3+ years of experience with JVM technologies.

• Knowledge of Scala or a strong willingness to learn.

• Experience or interest in functional programming.

• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud platforms.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Experience with databases (Postgres).

• Proficiency with Git and modern development tools.

• Familiarity with continuous integration.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team.

• Fluency in English for international collaboration.
