The Senior Director, Land Development oversees Convergent’s solar and storage development activities, leading the land development team by building an efficient and scalable development platform supported by all necessary internal and external resources, providing strategic guidance, establishing development goals and budgets, and continuing to successfully scale and mature the unit in accordance with the broader business goals. This role is the subject matter expert in all aspects of the project development process including due diligence, local AHJ and stakeholder engagement, entitlements, permitting, local tax/PILOT negotiations, title clearing, and interconnection.
This people management role oversees one unit of 1-3 individual contributors who progress the company’s pre-construction pipeline of solar and battery storage projects from site acquisition through completion of entitlements.
What You’ll Do
Operational Oversight and Development (40%)
- Maintain and build a scalable and efficient land development platform, including but not limited to all required employee resources, standard operating procedures, processes/workflows, stable of trusted third-party consultants, software solutions, etc. to ensure timely, efficient, and risk-mitigated projects.
- Manage all aspects of the project land development process and drive projects to their successful completion.
- Continue to develop and implement the land development strategy for the growth objectives of the organization.
- Support the continued development of best practices by documenting your knowledge and experiences into lessons learned and ongoing procedures
- Track and help maintain the C&I, RFP, M&A, and greenfield development pipelines to ensure that projects are developed in a manner that minimizes risk, maximizes Convergent’s returns, and can attract cost-effective, efficient third-party debt and tax equity financing.
People Management (40%)
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct report(s) and follow Convergent’s performance review cycle, setting clear goals, evaluating outcomes, and addressing performance issues promptly and effectively.
- Work with People Operations to handle personnel matters with professionalism, including onboarding, growth, training, hiring, resolving conflicts and making informed recommendations on corrective actions, and staff transitions when necessary.
- Foster a positive team culture that embodies Convergent’s values.
Collaboration and Influence (20%)
- Works closely with other teams (Marketing, Business Development, EHS, Asset Management) to ensure consistency, share knowledge, and facilitate project execution and feedback loops.
- Assist leadership in resource planning and management
- Collaborates with Business Development, Pre-Construction, Financial Operations, M&A, Legal, and Engineering subject matter experts to deliver concise analyses, coordinate development activities and decisions, communicate progress and efficiently handoff entitled properties
- Manages and works collaboratively with sales and engineers on a regular basis to help them make decisions, plan, and solve problems.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another relevant field.
- 10+ years of successful engineering and project development experience with a minimum of 1 year of solar, wind or BESS experience.
- 3+ years of people management and mentorship experience.
- Detailed understanding of entitlement regulations and policy, title clean-up and easement creation, and siting considerations.
- Ability to build relationships with people across the stakeholder spectrum – landowners, public officials, regulators, engineers, financiers, etc.
- Successful project development track record.
