Evercrisp Biosciences is a well-funded Bay Area biotechnology company (moving to South San Francisco in Jan 2024) focused on the discovery and development of protein-based genome editors as therapeutics for multiple disease areas. Evercrisp Biosciences is applying advanced computational methods, machine-learning, and protein engineering to deliver novel enzymes with high cell uptake and in vivo editing. Our Protein Sciences team is seeking a highly motivated and energetic scientist to drive protein engineering efforts and lead biophysical characterization of our therapeutic molecules. About the Position
Primary Role and Responsibilities:
- Design and execute high-throughput protein engineering screens in collaboration with computational modeling group
- Develop methods to support protein evolution and affinity maturation
- Biophysical and functional characterization of protein biotherapeutics
- Implementation of automation to streamline laboratory workflows
- Maintain detailed records and contribute to intellectual property and regulatory filings
- Communicate and interact closely within cross-functional organization to understand needs and acheive short-term and long-term strategic goals
Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology or other related scientific discipline with 0-2 years related industry experience
- Advanced experience with one or various surface display technologies (yeast, phage, ribosome, mRNA…) for a high throughput protein engineering campaign as demonstrated by successful publication in a peer-reviewed journal
- Expertise in biochemical and biophysical techniques for characterizing protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions (fluorescence polarization, SPR/BLI, AlphaLISA, HTRF, binding kinetics) and function (spectroscopy, enzyme kinetics, substrate-linked assays).
- Significant technical experience with various recombinant protein expression systems and subsequent purification of high-quality protein
- Experience in preparing NGS libraries and subsequent sequence analysis is preferred
- Previous work with protein evolution techniques is highly desired
- Proficiency in troubleshooting molecular biology (high throughput pooled and arrayed cloning) and protein expression workflows (expression optimization, affinity/ion exchange chromatography, FPLC)
- Attention to detail with rigorous scientific thinking and clear communication supported by appropriate documentation.
- Creative mindset to tackle difficult problems and propose solutions, as well as prioritize tasks across multiple projects
- Strong team player with a desire to contribute to innovative technologies and drive success in an early-stage company
