Job Summary:
The VP / Senior Director of Design will lead the product design organization for OpenGov globally. The incumbent in this role will be a thought leader, systems thinker, and design innovator with a people-first mindset - someone who can set a clear vision, build bridges, connect dots, foster trust, and gain consensus. You will provide product design direction, strategy, and management at product lifecycle level and contribute to short-and medium-term strategic planning. You will influence and coach your team to achieve design excellence, ease of use, and product success.
The ideal candidate will be a strong, inspirational leader and strategic innovator who leverages best practices, research, and partnerships with customers and stakeholders across the organization to identify and develop compelling experiences that sets the standard for Govtech products in the industry.
Responsibilities:
Vision and Strategy• Take a pragmatic and practical approach to defining an experience vision collaboratively and at the right fidelity — and then translate vision into actionable next steps that supports the product roadmap and one that product designers can execute against.• Work within the product design team and with other product and engineering leaders to propose and improve various processes to inspire innovation and promote new ways of working.• Work with cross-functional peers to identify and prioritize high impact opportunities along the product customer journey and execute on them.
Product Delivery, Strategic Planning, and Alignment• Deliver best in class user experiences for our customers.• Be accountable for all product design deliverables, processes, and standards in the organization.• Collaborate with your cross-functional partners to align product goals, roadmap, delivery schedule, and processes to business OKRs and stakeholder timelines.• Lead the continued evolution of OpenGov’s design system, ensuring the component and pattern libraries adhere to the OpenGov’s brand and established standards for system design and accessibility.
Product Delivery, Strategic Planning, and Alignment• Develop individualized career development plans for direct reports and coach them through success. • Develop strong relationships and establish a position of influence with counterparts across the organization, particularly among your product, engineering, and marketing peers and teams. • Stay abreast of industry best practices, technical, and process trends and developments; continually introduce them into the workflow to keep OpenGov’s product experiences competitive and to attract and retain world class design talent.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
• BS/Masters or significant work experience in a HCI, Design Management, Information Systems, or an equivalent form of relevant design training.• Experience influencing and shaping executive strategies with design concepts.• 5+ years of experience hiring and managing product design managers, building and scaling a team of product designers.• 10+ years of hands-on experience designing at an enterprise level; SaaS product experience preferred.• Proven experience in matrix team and product-line alignment• Expert grounding in design-thinking methodologies with proven hands-on experience working in an agile environment• Ability to think creatively, to collaborate and to communicate ideas to senior stakeholders, custome
