Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel - Litigation

Capital One Legal is seeking a motivated litigation attorney to join its Employment Law and Financial Services Litigation Teams.  In this hybrid role, the successful candidate will manage a dynamic portfolio of financial services litigation matters and serve as primary legal advisor for HR business teams and the subpoena response team.   The Employment Law Team serves as legal advisors for all US HR Operations and several other Enterprise functions and manages all employment-related litigation in the US.   The Financial Services Litigation Team handles a broad mix of disputes and litigation matters related to Capital One Auto Finance, one of the largest automotive financing providers in the United States.   

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage defensive pre-litigation demands and litigation matters through their entire life cycle.

• Hire and oversee outside litigation counsel.

• Provide regular legal advice and guidance to internal client groups. 

• Work on a team with other attorneys and legal professionals.

• Perform a wide variety of attorney tasks.

• Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders.

• Ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.

Basic Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

• Active member in good standing of at least one state bar.

• At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, government agency or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency. Previous experience in the financial services industry and/or in providing regular advice to HR teams is a plus but not required. Applicants without financial services experience who otherwise meet the criteria are encouraged to apply.

• Federal court or state appellate court clerkship.

• Ability to manage a large number of matters across a range of substantive legal areas.

• Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs.

• Ability and desire to learn new areas of law.

• Ability and willingness to work as a team player.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
