The Investment Professional is a key contributor on a team focused on tax credit equity investments, with an emphasis on renewable energy investment tax credits—including solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Responsibilities include relationship management, deal negotiation, internal reporting, risk assessment and mitigation, project oversight, sales, sourcing, underwriting, and coordination with both internal team members and external partners (e.g., legal counsel, brokers, syndicators). The role also involves analyzing complex financial and investment data to ensure timely transaction closings aligned with internal objectives and investment targets.

Additionally, the individual will support the development of investment recommendations for presentation to the investment committee. While prior experience in energy finance, development, or asset management is advantageous, it is not required. Relevant experience in structured investments, financial planning and analysis, accounting, audit, or corporate finance is preferred.

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis.

The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location:

Columbus: One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215

Work schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

The Investment Professional plays a key role on a team responsible for tax credit equity investments, with a specific focus on renewable energy investment tax credits. This includes relationship management, negotiating, management reporting, risk assessment and mitigation, project management, sales, sourcing, underwriting, direct or indirect management of associates, and analyzing highly detailed financial and investment information.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Manage and oversee partner relationships with syndicators, brokers, developers, and attorneys for the tax credit platform to drive positive investment performance, with an emphasis on renewable energy projects.

  • Build, perform, and review financial and investment analysis including reports to communicate to both internal and third-party clients.

  • Interface with team members, management, legal, syndicators, brokers and developers in managing investments from origination, underwriting, and closing.

  • Perform investment site and partner office visits to understand risks and related risk mitigation strategies and manage outcomes from those visits.

  • Conduct research and analysis on market and industry trends, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

  • Responsible for continuous improvement, improving efficiencies, and process management of renewable energy investments as well as other tax credit investments. 

  • Provide education, guidance and support to other team members with less experience where applicable.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Asset Class Senior Investment Professional

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education:  Bachelor’s degree with course work in Accounting, Finance, and/or Real Estate.  Master’s Degree, CFA or CPA designation preferred.

Experience: 6 to 10 years of investment experience, with a preference for experience in renewable energy tax credits.
