Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced and driven Research and Technology (R&T) Automation Engineer to join our team in Riverside, CA. In this role, you will support an innovative, multifunctional team to advance the state-of-art in thermoplastic composite component manufacturing.

Relocation assistance will be provided.

What You Will Do

  • Program software controlling thermoplastic composite fabrication process equipment including Automated Fiber Placement, Welding Robot and Gantry, Paint/Primer Surface pre-treatment, Non-Destructive Inspection.

  • Perform systems integration of fabrication process equipment, power and control hardware and software.

  • Provide design-for-manufacturing support for aircraft nacelle demonstrator components and certification test articles.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.

  • Experience programming and operating Kuka robots and integrating end effectors.

  • Experience programming and operating Coriolis fiber placement machines.

  • Experience using CATIA design and DELMIA digital manufacturing software as applied to carbon fiber-reinforced polymer components.

  • Experience using Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal.

  • Experience selecting, installing, integrating and operating composite manufacturing process equipment through a product development cycle starting with proof-of-concept bench-scale parts and progressing to full-scale system demonstrators.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Aerospace industry experience.

  • Experience working in a technology development environment.

  • Experience working with thermoplastic composite materials.

  • Soft tooling programming experience for carbon fiber-reinforced polymer ply cutting, laser projection on fabrication tools, and part machining.

  • Experience programming and operating non-destructive inspection equipment.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a functional range of people including research and production technicians, engineers, program managers, and site facilities staff.
