The Director, Research provides leadership and oversight for departmental research activities by optimizing research opportunities for faculty, residents, and trainees through support of basic, clinical, and translational research project conception and development, grant writing, recruitment and compliance, manuscript development, and management of submissions. Builds and sustains a research portfolio aligned with departmental and organizational priorities.

The Director, Research

  • Collaborates with faculty, residents, and trainees to identify, develop, and optimize research opportunities, including hypothesis development and study design.
  • Assists in identifying and securing grant and foundation funding, including searching for relevant funding opportunities, drafting grant applications, coordinating submissions with Research and Development, and supporting annual reporting and maintenance of funding records.
  • Supports recruitment and retention of research subjects, including identification of appropriate participants, development and maintenance of consent documentation, and coordination of research activities in accordance with individualized care plans.
  • Oversees data collection and maintenance of research records in compliance with local, state, federal, and funding agency regulations.
  • Assists with development, completion, and submission of manuscripts, abstracts, and conference materials.
  • Serves as liaison with institutional Research and Development, Institutional Review Boards, Office for Human Research Protections, Legal, FDA, industry sponsors, and contract research organizations.
  • Provides administrative oversight for research operations, including study start-ups, project tracking, budget development and monitoring, and support of contract negotiations in collaboration with Research and Development.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance for research studies, including preparation and submission of IRB applications, amendments, renewals, informed consent documents, data collection tools, and audit documentation.
  • Supports development and delivery of research education and training for faculty, residents, students, and research staff.
  • Participates in departmental and institutional meetings, committees, and academic activities as applicable.
  • Develops and supports protocols and workflows to ensure research studies are operationally ready, including coordination of resources, staff, training, systems builds, and logistics.
  • Supports public and patient education related to research and clinical trials and promotes awareness of research programs and collaborations.
  • Maintains required research registrations and reporting systems, including public trial registries and institutional research websites.
  • Assists with multi-institutional collaborations, agreements, amendments, new program development, and discussions related to publications or intellectual property.

What We Require:

Education: Master’s Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience: 3 years of experience performing and coordinating research activities.
