Your new role – why is this a great opportunity?
This is the opportunity to apply and expand your existing knowledge of financial planning and performance management both at the project and the portfolio level. You will independently be a financial advisor to several of our clinical stage molecules, drive financial planning and reporting, and deliver impactful analyses of trade-offs (involving cost, risk, value, timelines etc) within and between projects. This role requires knowledge about R&D in pharma, financial knowledge, analytical skills and an interest in collaborating across the value chain with stakeholders with different backgrounds, as we cover research to marketed products.
Key responsibilities are:
- Partner with R&D Global Project Teams as “financial advisor”, and drive financial planning, reporting and performance management for several pipeline molecule/projects. Accountable for deliverables related to these R&D projects, including budget/actuals/accruals, quarterly estimates and long-term plan; ensure quality of deliverables.
- Drive analyses relevant to up-coming decisions with the project team, enabling quality project and portfolio decision making; understand cost aspects and drivers of cost, as well as guide valuation and analysis of trade-offs (likelihood of success, commercial potential, timing etc). Prepare management presentations related to these deliverables and present them to governance and executive management.
- Responsible for target setting, quarterly estimates and other recurrent processes for specific molecules. Drive generation of insights; regularly as well linked to decisions looking at the implications both project and portfolio level.
- Develop and participate in improvement and optimization initiatives in Group Finance, R&D and beyond.
Your future team
Group Finance at Lundbeck is located in Valby and is around 50 employees in total, of which 8-9 support Research and Development around three main tasks: financials around pipeline and portfolio projects, project valuation/investment decision support, and controlling of capacity/fixed cost. You will join the pipeline and project finance team of team 4-5 people. The position is based in Valby, Denmark, with the expectation that you are physically present at the office, with some ability to work remotely.
What you bring to the team
We are looking for someone with the right mix of skills, background and interest in R&D, Finance, planning and decision support – who on the personal side is proactive, collaborative and independently takes initiative.
Other things we look for include some of the following:
- A relevant master's degree (economics, business, finance or similar) and 8+ years' experience within the area of R&D and/or R&D finance and/or portfolio analysis and management, ideally within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Experience and interest in decision making in R&D, with the ability to “bilingually translate” R&D terms into financials and vice versa. You are comfortable in an environment where R&D expects to get business-oriented finance support, and valuable/actionable insights.
- Experience with using/making valuations (i.e. probability weighted NPV modelling), evaluating strategic options, and ideally exposure to portfolio management.
- Experience with financial planning and performance management, with knowledge about finance/accounting and accruals.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate transversally.
- Ability to work independently with a critical sense, an analytical mindset and ability to communicate at a 30.000 feet view or go into details as needed depending on the situation and audience.
