Role Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing building maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility operations support at an assigned BRC location. This hands-on position helps ensure that building systems, resident areas, offices, common spaces, and grounds remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate has experience with basic carpentry, painting, work orders, preventive maintenance programs, minor plumbing/electrical, and general building operations. Through timely maintenance services and a commitment to safety, the Facilities Maintenance Worker supports BRC's mission by creating a safe and welcoming environment for clients, residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair work orders.
- Perform routine inspections of HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems, lighting, doors, windows, locks and building infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and perform building repairs to minimize operational disruptions; escalate timely concerns to leadership, program staff or external vendors when needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
- Support room turnovers, resident/client move-ins and move-outs, and facility improvement projects.
- Assist with furniture moves, equipment setup, deliveries, and space reconfigurations.
- Monitor common areas, offices, client spaces, restrooms, exterior areas, and grounds to ensure they remain safe, clean and operational.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements, applicable building codes, agency policies, and safety procedures.
- Identify, document, and address safety hazards in a timely manner.
- Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
- Support emergency response activities and life-safety preparedness.
- Assist with inspections conducted by regulatory agencies, funders, or internal stakeholders.
- Build positive working relationships with program leadership, staff, clients, residents, contractors, and vendors.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation; utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document inspections, service requests, and completed work
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- One (1) year or more of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, property maintenance, construction, building operations, or a related skilled trade.
- Experience performing basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repair work.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, work order systems, and building maintenance procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot facility issues and complete repairs independently.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials.
- Ability to work in residential, supportive housing, shelter, healthcare, commercial, or institutional environments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in supportive housing, shelters, residential facilities, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, multifamily housing, or property management environments.
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance certifications.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Knowledge of building systems and mechanical equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in residential, shelter, office, and program environments. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 50 pounds. Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, waste materials, and varying indoor/outdoor conditions. Direct interaction with clients, visitors, contractors, and staff throughout the workday.
