A Brief Overview
Under the direction and supervision of the Operations Manager, the PEMS Tech II (Unit to Unit) is based in the Facility Services-Express Service Department and assists the hospital in provision of patient equipment by performing cleaning/sterilization of specified equipment in the following areas: Inpatient Nursing Units, Inpatient ICUs, Emergency Department and other departments as directed and perform equipment cleaning functions as assigned.

What you will do

  • Maintains safe behavior according to the Hospital’s strict safety guidelines.
  • Adheres to the standards, policies and procedures of the Hospital, following safety guidelines for self, patients, visitors and other employees.
  • Adheres to dress code and badge identification policies as required by the hospital.
  • Adheres to the HIPAA standards for protecting patient information.
  • Adheres to the guidelines provided within the multiple standard work documents supplied to them.
  • Transports equipment in a manner complying with established LPCH & SHC guidelines.
  • Answers iPhone using all appropriate functions of the Epic Transport Rover system and delivers equipment requests within the timeline specified in the Equipment Technician Guide book.
  • Communicates effectively in a clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize workload by setting priorities.
  • Responsible for cleaning all assigned equipment using hospital-approved disinfectant wipes adhering to all manufacturer recommended cleaning procedures.
  • Organize the soiled utility room. Call SPD, RT or PEMS for equipment pickup via the FSRC.
  • Remove any equipment not functioning properly and red tag as needed. Call the FSRC or Clinical Technology for removal and repair of equipment.
  • Search the unit and hospital for any missing equipment that is unit specific.
  • Interact with all patients, visitors and staff demonstrating C-I-CARE behaviors.
  • Contributes to the unit, department and hospital goals.
  • Meets work agreements and responsibilities as defined within the PEMS Technicians Guide book.
  • Adheres to the HIPAA standards for protecting patient information.
  • Clean, pickup, distribute and store routine inventory items in accordance with established guidelines/policies or as directed.
  • Log-out/tag-out broken equipment, ensure work orders are generated for the appropriate repair entity and facilitate transfer of these items to appropriate repair location.
  • Keep PEMS work areas neat and organized with the equipment at the lowest possible profile.
  • Escalate customer service complaints/issues promptly to the PEMS management staff.
  • Logs out of Epic Rover 15 minutes prior to the end of their shift in order to complete all end-of-shift tasks and job requirements, check work e-mail and complete their assigned reports.
  • Does not engage in personal tasks during their work shift unless on their 15-minute break or lunch, including but not limited to, use of a personal cell phone or other personal electronics, eating, or using the internet.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required


Experience Qualifications

  • 1+ year to 2 years as a PEMS Technician I or comparable experience Required


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to effectively communicate in English (written, verbal and reading).
  • Able to accurately, completely and independently perform the reading, writing and arithmetic required by the job.
  • Meets the physical requirements of the job and is able to walk, stand and lift without endangering physical health or limiting work performance.
  • Able to problem-solve effectively using appropriate resources.
  • Able to perform simple database entries and run reports as required.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare
    Providers required .
  • CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State required .
