About the role
This role is perfect for a local professional with a solid and stable work history, and at least four years of hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing various HVAC and Refrigeration systems including large tonnage units, package units, split unit chiller units for walk in fridges. As a pivotal member of the Maintenance Team, you will be responsible for supporting the organization through preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of equipment.
This position reports directly to our Maintenance Manager. However, as a member of the team, you’ll work closely with other inspiring senior leaders. That means you’ll have the opportunity to learn from our growing team at all levels of the organization, all the way to the front lines of our “brositas” serving customers day-in and day-out. While each person within our franchise plays an individual role, we demand relentless commitment to how we also grow as a team—now over 900 people.
What you will do
Everyone who joins our team is responsible for creating value, regardless of their role. But that looks a little bit different for everybody. As a Senior Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician you will be responsible to:
- Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot large HVAC systems, package units, and refrigeration equipment, ensuring efficiency, compliance with regulations, and up-to-date knowledge of technologies and safety practices
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks and basic equipment repairs:
- Order parts needed for repairs
- Note: any repairs costing more than $500 should be approved through the Facilities Manager
- Use the full QA Inspection Checklist monthly, at all shops, to ensure standards are met
- Communicate issues to the Facilities Manager regarding shops not meeting our cleanliness standards or with areas for improvement so they can properly address the shop management
- Order parts needed for repairs
- Effectively prioritize, track, and communicate the status of repairs and maintenance requests with shop leadership:
- Utilize the prioritization matrix to ensure effective prioritization of routine maintenance tasks, requests from shop leadership and any other emergency or non-emergency needs that are identified
- Manage requests and schedule tasks or repairs efficiently
- Communicate regularly with Shop Managers, Regional Managers, and Facilities manager to assess immediate and long-term needs, and regarding service schedules and system status
- Maintain accurate service logs and reports, documenting all maintenance and repair tasks per digital maintenance log(s)
- Coordinate needed repairs with electricians, plumbers, and contractors as outlined by the Facilities Department
- Train Apprentices and Maintenance Technicians:
- Ensure work is completed to standards
- Assist with any other Facilities and Maintenance department projects as needed
Qualification Requirements
- At least four years of hands-on experience in maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing various HVAC and Refrigeration systems including large tonnage units, package units, split unit chiller units for walk in fridges
- Certifications
- HVAC certification(s) relevant to the local regulatory requirements (e.g., EPA 608 certification for handling refrigerants)
- Additional certifications in specific HVAC technologies or systems are often preferred
- Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Have a valid driver's license & clean driving record
- Pass ‘Driving Standard’ background check and insurance underwriting process
- Available to work flexible hours that include nights, weekends and holidays for 35+ hours a week
- Ability and willingness to be on-call after hours for maintenance emergency service as needed
- Must have a smartphone with ability to download and use maintenance app(s)
- Proven track record of reliability and a stable work history
- Excellent communication and record keeping
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
