Emory College of Arts and Sciences (Emory College), founded in 1836, is Emory University’s primary undergraduate division with more than 5,700 students. Its intensive liberal arts curriculum is backed by all the resources of one of the world's top research universities. Emory College plays a critical role in supporting and expanding the liberal arts throughout the University and its nine undergraduate and professional schools.

 

This effort is led by the College’s renowned 550-member faculty who bring their path- breaking research – and commitment to excellent teaching – to the classroom. With more than 50 departments and programs, 86 majors, and 63 minors, Emory College students pursue rigorous courses of study that emphasize critical thinking, the nature of evidence from multiple perspectives and the ability to ejectively reason and communicate. The Office for Undergraduate Education (OUE) stewards the academic experience of undergraduates in Emory College. It promotes academic excellence by providing leadership and support across the College, both curricular and co-curricular. The OUE advances the vision of Emory College by collaborating with its faculty and Emory University partners to deliver a transformative liberal arts education. In this endeavor, it co-creates academic experiences that enable each Emory College student to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to Emory University’s mission to “create, preserve, teach and apply knowledge in the service of humanity.”

 

The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education: Academic Affairs and Faculty Partnerships in the Office for Undergraduate Education (OUE) is a key contributor to the overall academic success and experience of undergraduates and faculty in Emory University’s College of Arts and Sciences (Emory College). The Associate Dean is responsible for providing strategic leadership for undergraduate academic affairs, including the effective delivery of the undergraduate curriculum in Emory College. They will focus their efforts on the social sciences and STEM disciplines, providing critical administrative and curricular support for faculty and departments in those fields. They will work to develop and implement effective academic policies and assessment processes, as well as provide expert counsel to faculty and departments on matters of enrollment, assessing and advancing the curriculum, and developing new majors, minors, and other academic programs. The Associate Dean will also provide key support to departments and academic advising around specific and often complex curricular, faculty, and individual student issues.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, plays a leadership role in managing academic affairs offices and programs in Emory College of Arts and Sciences, in the Office for Undergraduate Education.
• Manages multiple academic programs and the teams of staff working on those academic programs. Have responsibility for strategic planning and developing processes to achieve those goals.
• Works with the Dean, Senior Associate Dean, and other school leaders to provide direction and organization of academic affairs within a school.
• Has responsibility for academic policy development and implementation, including the work of managing faculty standing committees and implementing policies for students and/or faculty/departments.
• Represents their school and programs internally to faculty, administration, and other university offices, and serves on University committees, as necessary.
• Externally, has responsibility for communicating and working with audiences including peers, alumni, and parents.
• Represents the University at national conferences. The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is part of a leadership team in the Office for Undergraduate Education. This group is responsible for supporting student academic success and partnering with faculty to offer academic programs and services.
• The Office for Undergraduate Education supports and advises the Dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences on issues related to undergraduate education. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• PhD or a comparable terminal degree and seven years of administrative experience in a university setting, preferably in an academic affairs office.
