About the role

The Office of General Counsel Litigation – Labor, Employment, and Benefits group provides legal advice on all aspects of the employment relationship and employment lifecycle, as well as on workplace policies, procedures, processes, and practices. It also represents FINRA in legal matters brought by current or former employees or before enforcement agencies.

This internship provides hands-on experience in labor, employment, and benefits law – focusing on the people side of legal practice, NOT securities law or markets regulation. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in pursuing careers in labor and employment law, human resources legal matters, and workplace compliance.

What You'll Gain:
Exposure to labor and employment law practice, including employee relations, workplace policies, benefits administration, and employment litigation support. This internship will NOT provide securities law, trading, or financial markets experience.

Ideal Candidate:
Students interested in labor and employment law, workplace legal issues, HR compliance, or employee benefits law.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist and support attorneys on various labor, employment, and benefits matters, including drafting documents, tracking legislation, and preparing materials.
  • Conduct legal research to assist attorneys in providing legal advice to FINRA management and departments.
  • Assist in document collection and review as needed for legal matters.
  • Assist in the preparation of subpoena responses.
  • Attend internal labor, employment, and benefits team strategy discussions.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate is pursuing a J.D; candidates entering their second or third year of law school in August 2026

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude and professional demeanor.

  • Effective communication, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work with others to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid schedule with three days in the office weekly (Tyson's Corner and Rockville, MD). NOT NYC.

  • Programs runs from June 1- August 7, 2026.

In addition to location, actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s skill set, level of experience, education, and internal peer compensation comparisons.

 

CA: Minimum Hourly Rate $25.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $34.00 
CO/HI/MN/VT*: Minimum Hourly Rate $23.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $32.00 

IL*: Minimum Hourly Rate $23.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $32.00 
Jersey City, NJ/NYC, NY: Minimum Hourly Rate $25.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $34.00 

MA/WA: Minimum Hourly Rate $23.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $32.00 

MD/Washington, DC: Minimum Hourly Rate $25.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $34.00 

NJ: Minimum Hourly Rate $25.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $34.00 

NY: Minimum Hourly Rate $25.00, Maximum Hourly Rate $34.00 

 

*Including positions performed outside the state but reporting to an office or manager in that state.

Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. FINRA provides full pay ranges so that the candidate can consider their growth potential while at FINRA.
